Artist's Comments

Submission for the cover of my school's literary magazine. This is the type of style/mood I would like to see on a cover, but I'm betting it's not flashy enough to pass the judge's approval. Oh well, what can you do. I still like it a lot.

I was so worried about the hair...! But it wasn't as hard to do as I thought it would be.

Photo ref used for face.

Micron pens, india ink + brush and gesso on brown paper. The blueish tone was added in photoshop.

Wow, it's like Art Nouveau meets Gauguin. I like this a lot! Though the I can't really imagine it without the blueish tone. That adds a lot to it.

I totally agree with you about the magazine; I really like how low-key and sort of... vintagey maybe? a cover like this would be, but I do think they'll probably opt for something more designy and less arty... you know?

Shame shame.

the style is so unqiue yet familiar. almost feel an egon schiele influence. I really love the earth tone colours and the crumpled paper. fantastic

i like how the lines of her hair are all smooth en consistent, while the lines of the plants are crooked and 'moving'.

"We want more than a mere photograph of nature. We do not want to paint pretty pictures to be hung on drawing-room walls. We want to create, or at least lay the foundations of, an art that gives something to humanity. An art that arrests and engages..."

Geez! Forget jen cover's. I'm rooting for you all the way. In fact, I will tell parker right now to vote for yours. I'll add threats.
